York to Perth

Friday 2nd December

Managed to get up early and was on the road before 8am. It was another sunny day, hot without being too uncomfortable - in fact excellent cycling weather. The route involved a gradual climb for the first 7km out of York after which it remained undulating most of the day. After about 30kms I stopped top enjoy the view from Mt Observation:

After 63kms I stopped for lunch in Mundaring, a small shopping centre. Then the route went through scenic forest to Mundaring Weir:

…after which there was another long ascent:

After reaching another small village, Kalamunda, at 90kms the route began a gradual descent towards Perth. After riding through the end of the forest the city came into view, its tall buildings clearly visible in the distance:

The road then descended in a gradual zigzag which was very enjoyable riding:

…and arrived in the city centre:

I reached my hotel, close to the centre, at about 5pm:

Total distance today 131kms - total trip distance 340kms. Nice ride, I'm already looking forward to the next stage down to Albany - but first there’s a weekend in Perth to enjoy...
